Title: Solheim Cup at The Gleneagles Hotel

That the Parliament welcomes the decision to hold the Solheim Cup at The Gleneagles Hotel in 2019 after the Ladies European Tour voted to stage the event in Scotland, the home of golf, for the third time in its history; understands that this event is regarded as the biggest tournament in women’s golf and will pit the best female professional golfers in Europe against their US counterparts, attracting a huge worldwide audience and media profile for the host country; believes that, just five years on from hosting what was dubbed the best-ever Ryder Cup in September 2014, the PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles will be a fantastic venue for one of the most exciting events in women’s golf, following Scotland’s successful bid, and congratulates everyone involved in the bid.

World COPD Day

That the Parliament welcomes World COPD Day on 18 November 2015, which was set up to raise awareness nationally of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); understands that the theme for 2015 is, It’s Not Too Late, and that the day will promote the actions that people can take to improve respiratory health, both before and after a diagnosis of COPD; notes that typical symptoms include increased breathlessness, a persistent cough with phlegm, wheezing and frequent chest infections understands that, while there is no cure, the sooner the condition is diagnosed and appropriate treatment begins, the less chance there is of severe lung damage; encourages members to visit the World COPD Day website for further information on the risk factors, symptoms, diagnoses and treatments, and commends the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease on organising the day and in its work to improve prevention and treatment of the condition around the world.

Country Holidays for Inner City Kids Grant Success

That the Parliament congratulates Country Holidays for Inner City Kids (CHICK), which is based in the Mid Scotland and Fife region, on its recent £14,368 Young Start award; notes that Young Start offers grants of between £10,000 and £50,000 for up to two years to support programmes for eight to 24-year-olds, and understands that CHICK will use its grant to allow 16 disadvantaged young carers to benefit from a week of respite care at one of its countryside retreats.
