Title: Female Rhino Arrives In Scotland

Motion Text:

That the Parliament congratulates everyone at Blair Drummond Safari Park, which is near Stirling, on it exchanging an adult rhino with a zoo near Paris; understands that, as part of the European Endangered Species Breeding Programme, Tswane, a 15-year-old female southern white rhino, is replacing 13-year-old Lucy, who has been sent to the zoo in France; believes that officials hope that, with a 15-year-old male rhino, Graham, Tswane will produce a calf in the next two years; notes that the programme involves captive animals that are at risk of extinction being matched with fertile mates in the hope that they produce offspring; believes that the scheme is vital for preserving endangered animals; commends the safari park on what it considers this successful exchange, and believes that it is important that zoos in Europe work together to maintain a sustainable, healthy genetically diverse and population.
