Spirit of Stirling Whisky Festival

That the Parliament welcomes what it sees as the success of the third Spirit of Stirling Whisky Festival, which was organised as part of Scotland’s Whisky Month and was held on 10 May 2014 at a new venue, the iconic Stirling Highland Hotel; understands that visitors were able to sample some of the best whiskies that Scotland has to offer, with over 30 distilleries and brands exhibiting on the day and 200 different whiskies available to taste; believes that, each year, tickets for the festival have been sold out and that it provides a boost for Stirling’s economy; wishes the organisers continued success, and hopes that the festival will return in 2015.

Stirling Albion and East Fife in League One Play-off

Stirling Albion and East Fife in League One Play-off

That the Parliament wishes Stirling Albion and East Fife football clubs the best of luck ahead of their two-leg, League One play-off final on 14 and 18 May 2014; congratulates Stirling Albion on winning 8-4 on aggregate against Annan Athletic and East Fife on winning 7-6 in a thrilling penalty shoot-out against Clyde; commends Jordan White of Stirling Albion on scoring a hat-trick against Annan, and notes that Stirling Albion are looking to return to the third tier of Scottish football following two seasons in the bottom division and that East Fife are looking to stay in the division.

Dementia Awareness Week

Dementia Awareness Week

That the Parliament notes that Dementia Awareness Week 2014 will take place from 18 to 24 May; notes that it is estimated that there are approximately 88,000 people with dementia in Scotland and around 3,200 of these people are under the age of 65; understands that local health charities will collaborate to reach people across the country with a wide range of activities and events to raise awareness of the condition; commends the work done by carers across Scotland in caring for friends and family members who have dementia, and recognises organisations such as Alzheimer Scotland for their ongoing effort in providing what it considers excellent services and vital support for the people across Scotland with dementia and their carers.
