Graham’s Dairy

That the Parliament notes that the Stirlingshire dairy firm, Graham’s, has recorded a 20% increase in turnover in the year ending March 2014; recognises that the firm currently employs 420 people and that its farm base now supports around 80 Scottish dairy farmers; understands that the dairy plans to expand and develop more product lines in cottage cheese and yoghurts due to further investment, which will be complemented by £20 million in new funding support from the RBS; believes that this will enable Graham’s to grow the home market, boost expansion plans and grow business south of the border; welcomes the fact that the firm boosts local employment in the Stirling area, and wishes every success in the future expansion of the company.

Concerns Over New Pharmacy Licences

Motion S4M-10054: Richard Simpson, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Labour, Date Lodged: 14/05/2014
Concerns Over New Pharmacy Licences

That the Parliament notes that three new community pharmacy licences have been approved in the NHS Forth Valley area, in Killin, Drymen and also Aberfoyle, where an appeal is pending; understands that, of the two GPs in Drymen, one has already left and the remaining GP has given notice to resign on 31 July 2014, three days before the new pharmacy opens; welcomes the second review of pharmacy licensing by the Scottish Government since 2009, however regrets that the concerns expressed in the NHS Pharmaceutical Care of Patients in the Community review by Dr Hamish Watson and Professor Nicholas Barber, and their suggestion of a moratorium that has been backed, it understands, by both the local Stirling SNP MSP and Labour MP as well as a Labour regional MSP, have been ignored, and invites the Scottish Government, as part of the current review, to reconsider introducing a moratorium through subordinate legislation and undertake an audit of the effect on GP practices and services following the granting of new licences.
