Stirling University Dementia Research Group to Play Leading Role

That the Parliament welcomes recognition of the increasing challenge of dementia in the announcement of substantial funding for research into dementia made at the recent G8 dementia summit; notes that this £20 million, six project programme is to be managed by UK bodies, the National Institute for Health Research and the Economic and Social Research Council; understands that one of the largest projects is a £5 million project in which the Stirling University Dementia Research Group will play a leading role, collaborating with universities in England and Scandinavia; further understands that one of the work programmes will involve in its second stage a strong collaboration with NHS Forth Valley, Stirling District Council and Alzheimer Scotland, and wishes Dr Richard Ward and Professor Kirstein Rummery as lead researchers every success in this important work.
