Motion S4M-06898: Richard Simpson, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Labour, Date Lodged: 06/06/2013

Breathe Easy Week

That the Parliament welcomes Breathe Easy Week, which takes place from 10 to 16 June 2013; notes that this is a series of events throughout the UK in June each year, in which the British Lung Foundation’s (BLF) Breathe Easy support groups around the country help to raise awareness of a particular issue relating to lung disease; recognises the importance of topics highlighted in previous years including smoking, sleep apnoea and asbestos-related disease; welcomes in particular what it understands is the recent progress that has been made in relation to asbestos-related disease; notes what it considers the recent success of the Parliament in facing down a court challenge from the tobacco industry to introduce new measures of tobacco control but believes that it needs to go further; strongly supports the theme of Breathe Easy week 2013, which acknowledges the importance of the BLF support groups in sharing support, advice, experiences and friendship with people affected by lung disease, and encourages all MSPs to contact their local support group to make clear their support.
