Cuts to Concessionary Travel Will Hit Hard-Working Scots
Commenting on the announcement by Transport Scotland that there will be a reduction in reimbursement to bus companies for operating the concessionary travel, Scottish Labour’s Dr Richard Simpson, MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, said:
“The SNP’s latest round of cuts to concessionary travel means that hard-working Scots who rely on buses will face increasing fares and poorer services over the next two years.
“There is no point celebrating that pensioners have free bus passes when increasingly they will struggle to find a bus to use them on. The gap between the SNP’s rhetoric and the reality for Scots is growing by the day.
“It is unacceptable that the SNP have taken the independent and small operators to the wire to negotiate a deal which may not even cover the shortfall this year, leaving bus operators out of pocket and putting a further pressure on fares.
“This announcement will have a substantial impact on our communities and will be another blow to Scottish families trying to make ends meet.”
