Drop Fight Against Ban on Cigarette Vending Machines

Drop Fight Against Ban on Cigarette Vending Machines

Responding to the Court of Session rejecting an appeal by Sinclair Collis, the UK's largest cigarette vending machine operator, regarding the legislation passed by the Scottish Parliament which banned the use of self-serve cigarette vending machines, Scottish Labour's Dr Richard Simpson MSP, said:

"With another defeat against the cross-party consensus to outlaw cigarette vending machines, it is time that the tobacco barons accept the will of the Scottish people and stop challenging the legislation.

"At every point, their spurious objections to the legislation are thrown out by judges. The law was drawn up, considered and implemented in a legal and appropriate fashion. The tobacco industry may not like it, but it's time that they accept that their days of peddling their dangerous and damaging products are increasingly numbered in Scotland.

"We've made so much progress in reducing the rate of smoking and as thousands of Scots are fighting hard during 'Stoptober', this decision is to be welcomed by everyone."
