Scottish Labour’s Dr Simpson has called on the Deputy Convener of the Scottish Parliament’s Health Committee to resign unless he is prepared to withdraw his deliberately misleading motion and accompanying SNP press release which is completely odds with Labour’s motion condemning the privatisation of the NHS.
Speaking following making a Point of Order in the Scottish Parliament on the issue, Scottish Labour’s Shadow Public Health Minister, Dr Richard Simpson MSP, said:
“This is an appalling slur from the SNP and one of the worst I have ever seen. Bob Doris has abused Parliament and abused his position as Deputy Convener of the Health Committee in his cavalier disregard for truth.
“In actual fact, Labour, supported by UNISON, used an opposition day debate in the House of Commons earlier this week to condemn the Tory-led government’s plans to massively increase private involvement in the NHS in England.
“This not just an SNP MSP getting their facts wrong, this is a deliberate misrepresentation of Labour’s position and he should apologise.
“Bob Doris should either withdraw this grossly inaccurate motion or resign as Deputy Convener of the Health Committee.”
Dr Richard Simpson has this evening written to the Presiding Office calling for changes to the admissibility criteria for parliamentary motions so that in future inaccurate motion cannot be tabled.
